Who's That Lady?

Origin of Grape Street Cait

Recently, someone found me on Instagram and asked, “what does Grape Street Cait” mean?

My first Instagram account name was “ChefCait” or some iteration of that. It was 2012ish and I had graduated culinary school at the top of my 24-person class and feeling pretty cool about it. When I graduated college from Boulder (GO BUFFS!) in 2010, there were scarce opportunities for the incredibly useful International Relations major I had chosen. I was hoping that I didn’t have to hear the proverbial I told you so from my parents when I moved in with them. But they held their tongues as I found myself and a few other things along the way.

After my brief stint in the culinary world, I found my way into real estate. Since my mom had been a successful broker for over a decade, it felt like a natural progression for me. Around the same time, I found myself wanting to practice what I preached! How can I help someone buy or sell a home when I am just a renter?! I did not know what the process FELT like for people and it just seemed inauthentic. That’s some professional commitment, am I right?

My first home was on Grape Street and I just thought it was the cutest name in the whole world. It kind of rhymes with my name, but not quite perfectly, which is what made me like it even more. It coincided nicely with the timing of my job change, so I rebranded as Grape Street Cait. I have since sold that little house on Grape Street and bought again elsewhere. But I refuse to change it because I like that it is a recollection of times past and a reminder of progressions, large or small, in my life and career in real estate.
